Post-Bachelor Specialization in Maternal and Midwifery Nursing

Course presentation

The study plan of the Postgraduate Nursing Specialization Course in Maternal Health and Obstetrics Nursing comprises a set of disciplines and clinical teaching, maintaining an adequate articulation between the theoretical and practical components.
This course confers the necessary qualification to obtain the professional title of Nursing Specialist in Maternal Health and Obstetrics Nursing, conferred by the Nurses Order.

Goals

The student must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competences that enable him / her to:
Integrate specialized nursing knowledge in maternal and obstetrical health that supports a critical reflexive practice, allowing the understanding and resolution of problems in new and multidisciplinary contexts;
• Reveal research capacity in the production of knowledge transforming practice in maternal health and obstetrics nursing;
Demonstrate ability to manage and transform complex and unpredictable contexts that require new strategic approaches, including reflections on ethical and social implications and responsibilities;
Communicate information, ideas, problems, reasoning and conclusions in maternal and obstetrical health nursing in a clear and unambiguous way;
To value the technical, scientific, ethical, relational, cultural and organizational competences, to care for the woman, couple, family and community, to experience or not contexts of transition, throughout the life cycle, to the different levels of prevention, taking responsibility in the team multi-professional;
Reveal specialized skills in the training of nurses and other professionals, as well as in the management of health services;
Develop skills that allow self-learning throughout life, in a self-oriented and autonomous way.

Access conditions

Candidates who meet the conditions set out in article 12 of Administrative Rule 268/2002 of March 13 may apply for this course:
a) Hold a degree in Nursing, or legal equivalent;
b) Hold the professional title of nurse (Ordem dos Enfermeiros – Portugal);
c) Have at least two years of professional experience as a nurse.
