POST-GRADUATION IN GERONTOLOGY AND GERIATRICS

Course presentation

The growing aging of the Portuguese population, coupled with the emergence of a new trend focused on the promotion of active aging, support the creation of the Postgraduate Course in Gerontology and Geriatrics (CPGGG). The CPGGG of ESSV seeks to develop skills and train professionals in the area of ​​Health and Social Sciences, enabling them to care for the person / family / caregiver to live life processes in gerontology, to contribute to the elderly person’s life goals realistic and achievable, and thus enhance the health, quality of life and well-being of the aged citizen. This course also aims to promote the construction, dissemination and application of knowledge, in a logic of implementation of policies and practices appropriate to the intervention in Gerontology. The CPGGG is intended for Nursing, Psychology, Medicine, Gerontology, Physiotherapy, Social Education, Social Work, and others in the Health and Social Sciences.
The organization of the Course complies with the provisions of Regulation No. 348/2008 of July 1, which establishes the principles governing the application of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) to the training provided by the Instituto Politécnico de Viseu (IPV).

Goals

The CPGGG of ESSV seeks to develop skills and train professionals in the area of Health and Social Sciences, enabling them to care for the person / family / caregiver to live life processes in gerontology, to contribute to the elderly person’s life goals realistic and achievable, and thus enhance the health, quality of life and well-being of the aged citizen. This course also aims to promote the construction, dissemination and application of knowledge, in a logic of implementation of policies and practices appropriate to the needs in Gerontology.
Thus, at the end of the course the trainees must have the knowledge and skills that enable them to contribute to the improvement of health and quality of life in scientific, professional and citizenship, being able to:
To develop instrumental, interpersonal and ethical competences indispensable for responsible, qualified and multidisciplinary intervention in gerontology and geriatrics;
To facilitate the development of knowledge and attitudes that support the exercise of highly competent functions, directed to the planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions, organizational and community, that promote an active aging;
Enable for the discussion of cases that promotes the identification and description of strategies of family and social political interventions that enhance the quality of life and well-being of the elderly citizen;
To enable students to design and implement entrepreneurial projects in the area of social gerontology;
Ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills that enable professionals from different areas to direct, manage and articulate services geared to support and direct intervention for the elderly, as well as support for families / caregivers.

Access conditions

You can apply for access to the
a) Degree holders in Nursing, Psychology, Medicine, Gerontology, Physiotherapy, Social Education, Social Services, and others in the Health and Social Sciences area or legal equivalent;
b) Holders of a foreign higher education degree in the field of Health conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this Process;
c) Holders of a foreign higher education degree in the area of Health that is recognized as satisfying the objectives of the degree of licenciado by the scientifically competent scientific body of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted;
d) Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum of relevance in the area of health, which is recognized as attesting ability to carry out this cycle of studies by the scientific body competent statutorily of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted.
