POST-GRADUATION IN CHINESE PHYTOTHERAPY

Course presentation

Phytotherapy has acquired great importance as a therapeutic tool for health professionals, both for social reasons, as it tends to use less aggressive therapies, both by increasing the scientific knowledge base that supports it. For these reasons, professionals need a good knowledge of medicinal plants and their active substances, as well as protocols to be followed in the practice of this discipline. Research and scientific research have indeed shown the importance of the use of medicinal plants through the use of herbal medicines, nutritional supplements, nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals. The proper and rational use of these products by health professionals prescribes benefits to patients and users, since the use of the therapeutic dose, the knowledge of the pharmacological action, the side effects and the adverse reactions is a fundamental factor for its correct use with the best expected therapeutic effects. The constant and growing demand by the Portuguese population for phytotherapeutic therapies, the emergence of a law that regulates professional practice, together with the need to train technicians duly qualified to use Chinese medicinal plants, support the creation of the Postgraduate Course in Phytotherapy Chinese (CPGFC).
The organization of the Course is in accordance with Regulation No 348/2008 of July 1, which establishes the principles governing the application of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) to the training provided by the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV).
