Master’s Degree in Maternal Health Nursing Obstetrics and Gynecology

Course presentation

The MESMOG course is a course of the 2nd cycle of studies leading to the master degree in Nursing Maternal Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a total of 120 credits and a normal duration of four curricular semesters of student work.

Goals

At the end of the study cycle, the master’s degree must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competences that enable it to:

Integrate specialized nursing knowledge (Nursing in Maternal Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology – NMHOG) that supports a reflexive critical practice allowing the understanding and resolution of problems in new and multidisciplinary contexts;
Reveal research capacity in the production of transformative knowledge of NMHOG practice;
Demonstrate ability to manage and transform complex and unpredictable contexts that require new strategic approaches, including reflections on ethical and social implications and responsibilities;
Communicate information, ideas, problems, reasoning and conclusions in NMHOG nursing in a clear and unambiguous way;
To value the technical, scientific, ethical, relational, cultural and organizational competences, to care for the woman, couple, family and community, to experience or not contexts of transition, throughout the life cycle, to the different levels of prevention, taking responsibility in the team multi-professional;
Reveal specialized skills in the training of nurses and other professionals, as well as in the management of health services;
Develop skills that allow self-learning throughout life, in a self-oriented and autonomous way.

Access conditions

They can apply for the study cycle (under the terms of article 17 of Decree-Law no. 74/2006, dated March 24, republished by Decree-Law no. 65/2018, of August 16 ):
a) Holders of the degree of licenciado or legal equivalent;
b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this Process;
c) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognized as satisfying the objectives of the degree of licenciado by the scientific body competent of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted;
d) Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting to the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the scientific body that is legally competent in the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted.
